Joe Schmitt writes a weekly blog called The Good Life, featuring information about the region’s history, culture, climate and economy. The blog also showcases new residents, clubs and organizations, outdoor recreational opportunities and local events.
On Sunday, December 13th from 4-7:30pm, children of all ages will enjoy a free holiday program at the Hop Nation, 31 N. 1st Avenue in Yakima. The festivities will include gifts and food, arts and crafts such as jewelry making and card decorating, and even a visit from old Saint Nick himself! Join over 300 other children (and counting!) at this year's Yakima Valley Children's Celebration.
Founder Sydnee Hurst explains that the event is a low-budget family friendly holiday celebration. "We have an incredible collaboration of people working to create this beautiful event, which primarily operates on donations," including the venue space, food, gifts and volunteers. Sponsors include Naches Heights Vineyard, The Seasons Performance Hall, and several other individuals and local businesses.
The event, in it's second year, is expected to double in attendance. "We can still use donations of art supplies, Christmas decorations, crafts, and side dishes from certified kitchens" said Hurst. If you would like to help or plan on attending the event, please contact Sydnee Hurst at 509-248-3894 for more information.
